ATLASPROFILAX®

Developed by R.-C. Schümperli

Optimal health and correct posture (standing or walking) were only concepts to the Swiss born René-Claudius Schümperli (developer of the AtlasPROfilax® treatment) for most of his life. Mr. Schümperli in his early years had fractured his first cervical vertebrae, the Atlas (C1). He suffered for what seemed to be an endless period of time. This suffering changed the course of his life through his desire to stop the pain. Like many people, neither traditional medicine nor any of the alternatives were able relieve his pain. Mr. Schümperli tried osteopathy and other known Atlas therapies but to no avail. All known therapies only gave him temporary relief from his pain.

In the course of his suffering, Mr. Schümperli developed a new method to work with the Atlas. Doing so, was a breakthrough for mankind. First, he discovered that almost all human beings have a completely dislocated first cervical vertebra. In contrast, practitioners of other modalities assume only a slightly misaligned position (subluxation) of only hundredths of millimetres. However, the Atlas is in most cases strongly dislocated (luxated). Each Atlas therapy approaches the Atlas differently and the methods of treatment are also completely different. Other applications are based on the assumption of a minimally misaligned position and therefore a correction can never be achieved completely, only an adjustment. The method developed by Mr Schümperli is able to allow the Atlas to shift softly and consistently into its anatomically correct position.

Today, we are aware of the importance of the Atlas concerning our health and mental balance. It is the passage for the cerebral nerves, veins, arteries, spinal cord and cerebrospinal fluid. A wrenched Atlas inevitably leads to restriction, disturbed blood flow and reduced information flow between the brain and body. The natural balance is disrupted. The incorrect position also leads to imbalances in the whole spine. The spine must compensate for the incorrect position of the Atlas with a rotation that goes all the way down to the sacroiliac joint. Since each vertebra is connected with internal organs and emotional patterns, such a twist of the inner axis is also able to unbalance the internal organs and emotional patterns. However, having the Atlas in its natural position, the body can obtain a new dimension of health.

The method developed by Mr. Schümperli works to release existing tensions by a specific massage of short neck muscles and allows the Atlas to slide into its correct position. This is done without twisting, cracking, thrusting or pulling on the neck. Once the Atlas reaches its correct position, it stays in position due to anatomical and mechanical reasons. The treatment only needs to be done once. It is recommended to receive massage and other therapies to assist the body with its healing and unwinding process. This offers the body the chance for complete physical, spiritual and emotional healing.

The model shows a dislocated (luxated) atlas. The atlas is dislocated to the left side.

Depending on the rotation angle, a luxated atlas causes a reduction of the volume of the skull opening and the vertebral canal.

Thereby, the spinal cord, different cranial nerves and other nerve tracts are all exposed to continuous pressure. At the same time, always caused by the dislocated atlas, the vertebral arteries, the carotid artery, various other vessels and lymphatics are all constricted.

The dislocated atlas is the main cause of dysfunction in the body and the psyche, of pain, disability, infirmity, and degeneration.

The continuous pressure on the spinal cord, the cerebral nerves, various arteries and vessels, etc., causes severe physical and medisturbances, ailments and illnesses. Because the atlas carries not only the skull, but also constitutes SUSPENSION, BALANCE AND CONTROL of the spine and the human skeleton, in addition to other health impairments, a luxated atlas causes serious disturbances and changes in the posture.

The results are symptomatic ailments and illnesses, such as neck pain, stiff neck, back pain, lumbago, herniated disk, scoliosis, jammed spinal nerves, scoliotic pelvis, pain in the hip joints, knee pain, meniscus and other illnesses of the knee, difference in leg length, etc.

An example of the interferences and changes of the posture caused by a dislocated (luxated) atlas is the scoliotic pelvis.
